week 5 ! insadong, class group activities, and taco bell

This week I attended my second class of Organizational Behavior, and the professor placed me in a group with all Korean students. I was intimidated at first because there was a bit of difficulty communicating with them, but they were all really nice and tried their best to assist me and talk to me. We did a class activity that involved us guessing each group member's character, such as our first impression of that person, the animal they are most like, what blood type we think they are, what food we think they like, and how many siblings do we think they have. It was interesting and fun hearing people's impressions of me. Afterward, I ate dinner at Shake Shack, and it was so good I instantly felt like I was back at home. Korean food is amazing, don't get me wrong, but after a month of not eating American food, I started to crave it more. While Korea does have a plethora of cuisines to choose from, some of their dishes are made sweeter than the usual flavor. It's definitely not terrible, but I'm not used to it at all. Anyways, the point is that I had great food that night.

On that weekend, I spent a day at Insadong! Insadong is known for traditional Korean goods and craft stores. The small outdoor mall that I went to, Ssamziegil, had stores selling music boxes, lego building sets, art pieces, glass bottle displays, and much more. I especially loved the music box store because it had Studio Ghibli music, and you can customize your own music box. Eventually, I plan to revisit that place so I can make one of my own. Another mall that we went to also had a music box store that was playing OST songs from Spirited Away, Inuyasha, and Your Name. We crossed the street to find the Seoul Art Museum open and free to enter, so we strolled the museum halls for a while before we stopped back over at Hongdae to find a karaoke place. It was a Saturday night so many places were crowded, but we settled on a coin karaoke place and spent 2 hours there. Each song is 500 won, so you can sing to your heart's content as long as you continue paying.

The next day, I mainly relaxed indoors since the humidity was brutal, and probably the most humid weather that I've felt ever. Around late afternoon, we went to the Namsangdong Market to see if we could shop or eat any street food there. Since we went early, it was not as lively, but we still managed to buy some things there. A lot of the store owners were saying hi to us and speaking to us in English since we looked like foreigners and they wanted our business. It was a welcoming atmosphere, and we later went to the Hyundai Mall for dinner.

I also started craving more food from back home again, and my roommate and I went to a Taco Bell one morning to check out their menu. The Taco Bell in Korea has a kimchee quesadilla and a shrimp taco, both of which were super delicious. However, the regular items were just as good, since it has been a long time since I've eaten them. I thought it was interesting how they don't give you the sauce packets for your order, but rather you order it with your food and they put it in for you. It saves mess and inconvenience, so I prefer this method instead. It was a great experience and it satisfied all my food cravings. Also, if you order tacos, they will bring them on a platter sort of like how you would serve fries. I only got the crunchwrap supreme and one double decker taco.

A pretty chill week with school assignments finally starting to surface and some exploring here and there. I'm starting to discover more food other than Korean cuisine, so I hope that I'll continue with that as I desperately miss food from home. Here's a nice busking performance that I saw this week.
